recovering

The weekend lent itself to recovery. Soccer was cancelled, it was nice to do nothing. The temps dropped and rain sprinkled. We ran a few errands and spent some time napping. The kids have recently started earning allowance for some small chores and they were able to spend some money they've been saving up. We found ourselves at Knowledge Tree purchasing test tubes...or "potion bottles." That was the one thing they were adament about. They spent the rest of the day mixing potions (watercolors) and creating things like, pumpkin potions, love potions and poison potions.
All in All spring break 2011 turned out to be a big thumbs up...for a staycation. It also allowed me a chance to start preparing for our cross country road trip in June. Our museum pass is going to be the best investment we've made all year...

spring break: Friday-Hot Springs

An afternoon in Hot Springs. Shane decided he had so much fun hanging out with us that he decided to take another day off. We drove out to HS for some lunch then Mid America Museum. We had a lot of fun exploring this place and can't wait to go back. Ty got to put on a lab coat and take a class on Oobleck... he was in heaven.

The kids had fun hoistung their own weight,
Theo had fun staring at himself in distorted mirrors.
Ty even got to drink out of a toilet.
We got a quick history lesson and demonstration of the Tesla Coil
then Ryli and Cannon got upclose and personal with static electricity...
 Good times, good times.

spring break: Monday-Wednesday

i tried to have a little something planned for everyday this week.

Monday: a celebratory trip to Krispy Kreme for breakfast. then we took our sugar high to the park and played for a couple of hours.

Tuesday: a trip to the dollar theater to see Tangled (which the boys still hadn't seen) turned out to be squashed by busloads of daycare kids...we saw Yogi Bear instead, which turned out to be a solid plan B

Wednesday: picnic with dad in his office. he's been at the VA for over a year now and the kids still hadn't been to his office. then the children where doted on for several minutes by all of dad's sweet co-workers. they even let the kids raid their candy bowls. after that we hit the NLR side of the Big Dam Bridge to run off some of that sugar high.
more spring break re-cap to come...

my husband, my hero

Shortly after I left for a girls night (see previous post), I got a call from Shane. He explained that he had a funny story for me, he began:

"I had just finished working out and jumped in the shower. I got out and the kids started yelling that there was a kid in the front yard. I went to the living room (in my underwear) to find the front door open and the kids already outside. There was a little boy in the front yard with a bucket of cars, as soon as he saw me he ran up the street. I looked around for an adult, didn't see one and ran and put my gym shorts on. He couldn't have been 2 years old. I caught up with him just as he was about to cross Pine Valley (a really busy road.) I yelled for him to come back but he kept running, then I yelled for him to show me his cars. He turned around. There was a man driving around looking for him, he was a neighbor, but he wouldn't get in the car with him, he was really scared. I asked him if he wanted to go look for his mom, he shook his head yes, then climbed in the car with me and onto my lap. We pulled up to his house, which was just up the hill and around the corner from our house, and of course his mom was in hysterics. He had been gone for 20 minutes, she had already called 911, and the neighbors were searching frantically. She thanked me profusely, then I walked home. When I got home Ty was standing outside in the middle of the street. When I asked him what he was doing he told me that he was looking for me. He was worried that the little boy was used as bait to lure me back to the bad guys so they could beat me up."

All of this while I was in the Anthropologie dressing room. A couple of conclusions...it's always risky to take showers when your the only adult in the house with four children. When you can't convince a lost little boy to come to you ask about his cars. Ty watches too many movies. Finally, I really love my husband.

The next day we were coming home from church and saw a woman wandering around with a basket of food. Shane slowed down and said that he thought that was the mom from yesterday. She recognized him when he rolled the window down, then she followed us home. She hugged Shane, shook my hand, and thanked us all so much for helping find her son. Then she handed us a bucket of goods from Fresh Market. A basket of delicious food on a Sunday afternoon??? Yes, please!! We dug in! Banana Nut Bread, french sparkling lemonade, chocolate bon bons, herbal tea, organic strawberries, and some really special coffee (my aunt-the coffee connoisseur can be the judge).
Good things happen to good people.

Super Moon: Becca's Birthday

Saturday night we were able to convince our men and children to let us take Becca out for her birthday. We made reservations at Ya Ya's and met at the Promenade for a little shopping. Anthropologie was #1 on the list, of course.
Dinner was delish, and afterward Holly decided her sweatpants were calling. She bailed. (who can blame her, she's like, 11 months pregnant)
We did a little more shopping, stopped and took a picture of the HUGE orange moon, went to Barnes and Noble and called it a night. The weather was perfect, company was great, shopping proved worthwhile, and Becca's 32nd Birthday GNO will always be remembered as the night of the super moon. The End.

Showering Holly

A baby shower was held at my house on Saturday, in honor of Holly's first little girl. She was gifted mostly handmade items, I personally contributed a pink diaper bag and changing mat. Also a wonderful little vintage dress and overcoat that I found while thrifting. Preparing for a girl is so much fun, even when it's for someone else.

She got so many neat things. I am so glad we got to spoil baby girl and her mama! Now we just need to get her here!!
