Swim Team

The kiddos decided to join swim team this year. All three joined but only two have survived the intense training. Ty bailed. Ryli's favorite seems to be the back stroke, but she has a strong freestyle. Cannon gets to wear his floaties, and he has a strong freestyle also. They love to practice and compete, but the best part is the ribbon ceremony that takes place every Tuesday night following the meets. The lifeguards or "coaches" throw the kids a little BBQ too.
It isn't a very serious competition, but the kids sure do love it. It's really nice to hang out with all of our friends and cheer the little ones on. The Griffins, Toblers and Hartzells do it too.

This night imparticular I wasn't able to make it because of the opening for a certain vampire movie, but I armed Shane with the camera so I wouldn't miss the highlights.
Goooo Cannon!!!

Sue-wee's B-day

Her dinner, pesto pasta with garlic shrimp, cesar salad and french bread.

Her dessert, a surprise. Which turned out to be a fresh berrry trifle and her favorite Baskin Robbins ice cream, Jamoca Almond Fudge.
She got some fine presents, exactly what she asked for...
a flashlight
a toilet brush holder (at least it's fancy),

some homemade fabric napkins (with lots of imperfections),

and stationary.

Exactly what she asked for,
and at 65 that's exactly what you should get!

Happy Birthday Sue-wee!
It was a pleasure to celebrate this important day with you...

graduation day 2010

the kids had mixed emotions about this day. me too. they each had a performance to give, and awards to receive. also, some sad goodbyes.

we had a bumpy school year, switching schools, morning sickness, a failed attempt at home-schooling...we were grateful when Forest Park came into the picture. they met some good friends and found a place amongst their class. with a few little twists of expected drama, of course.

i am so proud of their ability to adapt to a new environment, to make new friends, and to adjust to new expectations. they my humble opinion.

After the ceremonies, I took the kiddos to Krispy Kreme for National Doughnut Day. It seemed to turn their frowns upside down.
and then there was this guy....

let the fighting begin,
and the countdown to #4!

Toltec Mounds and Tyler

I ventured out to the Toltec Mounds with a car full of 2nd graders, a 4 year old, and a 7 month old fetus.

Crazy? Perhaps.

I get this weird feeling about abandoning my other children if I don't stay fully involved when I'm pregnant with the next one. I didn't really leave myself much of a choice. I had to attend Ty's last field trip as a 2nd grader.

With overcast skies, and 2 out of 3 of the activities held in the air conditioning, I was definetly cut a break. I even had fun.

So did Bubba.

We learned a lot about Native Americans, games the children used to play, pottery, and the Mounds of course.
The kids actually got to try out some of the games and make their own pots. I was quite impressed.
We picniced, then made our way around the trail, where the Mounds were finally explained.

They were used for ceremonies, shelter for the tribal leadership, and this one imparticular was for burying remains. Cannon was intrigued...
Ty and Nicolas were pretty much in their own world throughout the entire trail.
We found some hungry turtles, then headed back. I was relieved, I think the kids were too.

Field Day 2010

Oh the heat was scorching. I tried to be the good, involved mom and attend. I didn't last, and Cannon kept influencing me to leave. Honestly, I didn't need a lot of influence. I think I lasted one.whole.hour.

Ty and Ry seemed to be having a lot of fun, and we kept the water bottles filled. Games started around 8:30 am and went to 11:30am, where they were able to enjoy an afternoon pizza party and movies. That was pretty much all of the motivation they needed to get through the heat...the promise of pizza and movies.
