Wits & Wagers

To end 2010, we got together with friends. We ordered sushi, munched on munchies, and played a new game...Wits and Wagers. Good times.
The boys built with Legos, the girls imagined with doll friends. Theo mostly ate and slept. At 9pm we toasted with the kids, sparkling grape juice.
Now, I'm sitting on the couch watching Letterman and contemplating sleep. It's calling my name.

Shane is snoring next to me.

It's been a busy month.

This time last year I had a swollen womb. This year, I'm admiring my sweet littlest being from across the room. He sleeps soundly.

What a whirlwind, 2010.

We took a lot of trips, laughed alot, cried alot, made new friends, and cherished old ones, even added to our brood. We spent quality time with family, decided the Foreign Service was not in our immediate future. Shane has unfolded a lovely career with the VA Hospital. He dreams of writing for himself someday. I dream of more hours in my day, time for more project completion and less need for sleep. Ty dreams of Harry Potter. Ry dreams of her American Girls. Cannon dreams of GI Joes and Star Wars guys. Theo dreams of things that crinkle, his white blankey, and me...if I do say so myself.

I wonder what we'll be dreaming of this time next year.

crazy ninja's and other birthday things

The kids started pouring in around 2pm. Cannon was in heaven, all his friends, dressed up with free reign to run with plastic weapons. Boy did they ever. There were a few bouts with tears, lots of screaming, a few of "y'all need to go outside" 's...then finally cupcakes and presents.
The kids had sword fights on the Wii
 Giant Oreo grin.
 Best Buddies
 Making a wish
  Mrs. and baby girl Hartzell
 Present opening started like this...
and ended like this. It always does.
After clean-up and a few minutes to catch our breath we met the Griffins at Cheeburger Cheeburger for dinner. They rang the big cowbell to let everyone know it was Bubba's special day and gave him a round of applause. He hated it.
This picture reminds me of church Sunday. He was called up to the front of Primary so they could sing to him, he scowled the whole time. Very Napoleon Dynamite. It was hilarious...he doesn't like the spotlight at all.
The kids got to share the fabulous Mousse Mountain...and ended this special day with sweet dreams!

5 years ago today,

My sweet Cannon was born. I often refer to him as my sweet Cannon, or sweet bubba, because Ohhh.EMM.GeeEEE. he is practically made of sugar. He is the most sensitive of my offspring, wears his heart on his sleeve, cannot keep a straight face if he's mad, adores his dad, has an incredibly faithful soul and cares for his baby brother constantly. This kid has a lot to teach his mom....and siblings. He offers so much to our family.

Cannon-isms, lately:
He is a Star Wars and G.I. Joe NUT! He loves to dress up as a ninja, and practice his self taught Kung Fu skills. His favorite things to watch are, the original G.I. Joe cartoons, like from the early 80's. He loves any Star Wars movie, How To Train Your Dragon, Karate Kid, has almost grown out of Super Why, and still enjoys a little Dinosaur Train from time to time.

He appreciates a wide array of music, songs like, Live your Life by TI and Rihanna, When You Were Young by The Killers, I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, If I Faultered Slightly Twice by Of Montreal, Hearltess by Kanye West, Fireflies by Owl City, and his all time favorite All I Want Is You by Barry Louis Polisar.

His favorite sport to play is soccer, and loves to watch football. He LOVES to wrestle, and will loyally challenge his dad to a match everyday after Shane comes home from work. He always wants to wrestle.

He loves to help in the kitchen, color, play with his "guys", build with blocks, work on Lego's, play video games, and especially play with his best friends Aiden and Emory.

He attends preschool twice a week, and will be absolutely ready for Kindergarten next fall...which makes me sad. He started reading in October and has really taken off. He also still talks with his signature lisp. That might not be around much longer, as I see speech therapy in his future.

He is having a ninja-ish birthday party later today, after I recouperate from the festivities I will post the highlights...

I've been a slacking blogger...or a blogging slacker. Either way, here is one of my latest faves.
We had our family Christmas party last Friday night. Theo was gifted Sophie. I orginally discovered her through Becca, but as soon as I saw her I knew my little roundy had to have her. She's super special, french, and she squeaks! She makes Theo DROOL...and me too, a little.

I truly plan on updating the blog on all we've been doing. As soon as I have one. spare. minute.
(if you decide you need your own Sophie, you can find her on amazon)

The big D

Another work trip for Shane = play time for the rest of us:

Our stay in Dallas this trip was Monday through Thursday. We patroned Ikea twice, American Girl twice, Northpark Mall for the Lego Store, Crewcuts and Hannah Anderson. We also found a World Market, a BJ's for some delicious pizza and pizookie, Dave and Busters for Shane and the kids, and super Joann's for me and Theo!
And you know, a few stops at Target in between.

We love the opportunity to travel with Shane on his trips. We always promise our best behavior so we are invited back:)
And now to prepare for all of the upcoming holiday cheer...

Lazy Sunday

We didn't make it to church today, we stayed in cozy p.j.'s all day. Theo graced us with his delicious naked-ness, I taught Ryli how to crochet a chain, Ty and Cannon built obstacle courses for their G.I. Joe's...then Theo chewed on one for a while.
I made the boss a bear hat.
These kinds of days are an absolute NECESSITY for my soul.

Another 1st:

Ryli slept over at Alexee's. It was easier on me than Ty's. She has been dancing with Caroline and Alexee for 2 years, and I happen to know her mom pretty well. They girls all brought their American Girls, and had the time of their short lived lives.
It took me awhile to say goodbye, but Ry was ready for me to go. I'm glad she got to experience it, little girls need these things.
I'm pretty sure she was up until 2am.
She also bonded pretty quickly to Marley the dog.
