7 years

It was 7 years ago today that I looked out the window of Evans Army Hospital and knew. I knew that no matter how majestic the snow-capped Rocky Mountains appeared, they couldn't compare to the majesty of my perfect newborn. Pikes Peak was, however, a priceless backdrop to one of the best days of my life. He smelled so good, his head perfectly round and fuzzy, he was warm and by far the most perfect being I had ever layed eyes on...the most beautiful thing I had ever created. Seven years later I couldn't have imagined motherhood would ever be like this. Thank you Tyler for introducing me to a love I never knew I always wanted. His day went down like this: An expected morning wake up with a bundle of balloons, presents wrapped and arranged on the table. After everyone is awake the festivities begin. Presents are opened, breakfast is served. A friend is baptized at 11am. I leave early to prepare for a crowd. Friends show up around 1:3o for a Bakugan Battle Tournament. We eat, battle, laugh, chase and blow out a #7 candle that dipped itself in the fudge during the birthday song. Ty was very excited to lick it clean. He opened presents, which were all perfect for my 7 year old boy. Friends enjoyed some brownies and said their goodbyes. At 5pm we depart for Olive Garden for dinner with Gram, Poppa and Sue-wee. Olive Garden makes Tyler's favorite pizza. We join the Nilssons for bowling and our evening is concluded with a quiet movie for mom. A gift for myself perhaps, it took a lot of work to get him into this world! Have we mentioned that we have the best friends EVER? We love you guys...

Lucky Kids

Well, it's that time again. The 2nd Quarter ended before Christmas break but TODAY was the Honors Assembly. Yes, like last time both Ty and Ry were awarded with All A's and Good Citizenship Awards. What can I say...I have a couple of well behaved BRAINIACS. It's got to be because of the delicious lunches their mother makes for them everyday...right??!! What a special mom they have, those lucky kids.
Yes, publicly I give myself credit, but between you and me BLOG, I know it's 100% Shane...dang it.

Cannon became a Sunbeam at the beginning of the year. He isn't adjusting well. He is still a napper and apparently Primary isn't exciting enough to keep him awake...who'da thought?? After church we celebrated Ty's 7th with the family. The menu consisted of Parmesan Chicken, Oven Roasted Potatoes, Broccoli Cheese And Rice Casserole, Lima Beans, French Bread and Million Dollar Salad. It was divine. For dessert Tyler requested Brownie Sundae's since he is "allergic" to frosting. A Lemon Cake was also prepared. We left with full, happy tummy's.
(nice pic huh?! this is the only one we got before the batteries died)

Our evening was involved some serious Batman Lego on the PS2, baths, a light dinner and an early bedtime.
the sharp version of a light dinner...some granola topped with fresh berriesFunny thing, Ty created this on Saturday.
His explanation:
A double crown star representing morning and night.
Huh. That must be the Shane in him.

Where Men can be Boys

We attended a birthday party last night at Jump Zone. It was for Makayla. However you won't find any pictures of her here. Too bad...she's pretty dang cute! We had a great time, Shane came away with a few strained muscles and my shirt was a little ripped in the back. A few of us raced through an obstacle course. Here are some highlights:Joshua is the proven KING of the Inflatable Castle...or is this case JungleLarry loses to Joshua and rips a knee hole

Teriney becomes a little less Mexi

This was a really cool event, Teriney got naturalized at the Clinton Library. I went as a supportive friend...I walked away enlightened, a little more grateful, a little more proud. Proud of our great nation and the opportunity we allow immigrants, but also proud of the people who worked so hard and so long for this day. An experience you need to have at least once in your life I think. Attend a naturalization ceremony that is. Cannon walked away with a new bump on his head, in the midst of his excitement to see EVERYTHING, he stood up on his chair and lost his balance. To celebrate we met at Mercado's, a little mexi-market with a cafe in the back, for some delish tamales...the best I've ever had. I got to watch my man speak espanol (which is always hot) and have a dinner sans the babes! It was good fun. Thanks for including us Tobler's, we heart you!

ruby almost ate the table, I tried to get a picture of it but as soon as I took out the camera she posed

this girl...

The Next Day I received this:

Hey, I just wanted you to know Ryli used a white marker during nap time and colored her arms, hands and nails with it. I didn’t try to wipe it off in fear it may hurt. I just wanted to let you know.

Since when did drawing on yourself become email worthy?

My Perfect Angel

I received this email on my Blackberry this afternoon from Ms. Stuart. I giggled...

Hi Kristin,
I just wanted to let you know Ryli is not having a good day today. Yesterday she did not want to do her work, she sat on the floor under her desk and wouldn’t work. Today she has done the same thing and she told me she does not like working or writing. I had to get on to her several times before she would start writing today. Then after that she still wouldn’t do her work. Finally she started writing but she was really took her time about it. She has been extremely talkative and playful in class today. She’s writing now that I have told her I was emailing you about her behavior. I will move her away from Jahir today as well. Again, I just wanted to make you aware of her behavior this week. Thanks!

What can you do?

the boyz hit the dirt

a smores crisis
Freeze out camping was what my guys were doing last night. It wasn't really freezing at all, in the low 60's I believe. It was nice for me and Ry to have a little girl time (we actually hung out at the Hartzell's with mostly boys), and the boys to bond over the camp fire. They made smores, played Ben 10 guys, hide and seek (where Ty picked up a little Poison Ivy as a souvenir), and utilized our small 2 man Kelty, which hasn't had fresh air since 2003. We haven't been a 2 man sized family for a long time. I think they had fun...we did too. I'm sure Shane didn't get much sleep, neither did I. I listened to Ry grind her teeth all night....I just shivered again. I hate that sound. I woke up to the subtle noises of our toaster, she was making us breakfast. She had the settings so random that the waffles came out still frozen, bless her heart...

Everybody's doin' it!

Hole Lotta Love
Download the New Ecofont Typeface
Our holidays were neither silent nor holy. (But we’re on our knees thanking someone they’re over.) It’s not too late to become a holey roller. Just download Ecofont, a brand new typeface designed by some Dutch geniuses that’s made up of tiny little holes.

Here’s the backstory: Most printer cartridges end up in landfills. The more ink we use, the more garbage we create. So Spranq designed a font that uses 20 percent less ink by simply removing as much of each letter as possible, while still leaving it readable. Basically, the whizzes got rid of the line that connects the dots to create the characters.
It’s free to download and use, so there’s no reason not to.
Unless you’re just a total a-hole.

Here's to Hope!

For New Years Eve we fixed some fancy foods and hung out with the Griffins and Toblers. The kids were pretty much trouble free and went to bed around 10pm. It was relaxing, quiet, but let's just say the walls of privacy came tumbling down over games of Ligretto. I will leave it at that.

1. Remove the tonsils of Ty & Ry

2. Continue blogging

3. Eat more fruits and vegetables

4. Start running and Yoga again

5. Be on time more often

6. Teach myself some new sewing tricks

7. get lots of questions answered

8. love more, hate less (billy's i think?)

I fully expect to post about the success on all of the above! Sending warm wishes to anyone else who dared to make public resolutions, I might add more later...
