a bento obsession...

i have discovered a new thing to collect, obsess about, and build upon...it's called bento boxes.
there is this sweet little japanese girl in my gymboree class that i teach, her name is sarah. she is always bringing the most clever little lunches and i am always so excited to see her mom's latest lunch box creations. the bento box lunch offers portion control, a green alternative (no baggies to throw away) and a little creative luv from a momma to her child. obviously not one of my three would touch the sushi or rice forms used in the traditional bento boxes but i think that there are great ways to "americanize" the bento by using things like mini cookie cutters for sandwiches, and some of the really cute food picks and sauce containers. most of all is the adorable bento box itself. i am so excited to build up my collection and hopefully get my children a little more excited about eating in general. we are a bit desperate to add variety to our kiddos diets at the sharp house and i think this is a hobby i could really get into...
(thanks flickr for the borrowed photos)
